INFINITI QX60 vs. QX70 vs. QX80
INFINITI has a great lineup of crossovers for you to choose from. Among them are the mid-sized QX60, the compact QX70, and the large and spacious QX80. Our auto experts here at Herrin-Gear INFINITI have created a three-way comparison, so you can explore the best option to meet your needs.
Engine and Gas Mileage

There’s only one engine option in the QX60 , powered by a V-6 capable of churning out 295 horsepower. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic and comes standard with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is an optional add-on.
Regarding fuel economy, the QX60 achieves 21 mpg on city roads and 26 mpg on the highway in front-wheel drive. These figures drop by one mpg, respectively, in all-wheel drive. With all-wheel drive and other towing equipment, the QX60 can tow up to 6,000 pounds.
The QX70 features a V-6 engine under the hood that puts out 325 horsepower. The power train includes a seven-speed automatic transmission and standard rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is an optional upgrade.
The additional power of the QX70 compared to the QX60 comes at the expense of fuel economy. The QX70 achieves 17 mpg on city roads and 24 mpg on the highway in rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel-drive models lose one mpg, respectively. Only the AWD QX70 is rated for towing and has a capacity of 2,000 pounds.
As the largest SUV in the lineup, the QX80 also boasts the most powerful engine. The QX80 has a big 5.6-liter V-8 under the hood that can generate 400 horsepower and 413 lbs of torque. This powerhouse has a towing capacity of 8,500 pounds, which puts it near the top of the SUV towing charts. The QX80 can also hold its own off the beaten track with optional four-wheel drive.
However, the cost for this vast power is lower fuel economy ratings for the QX80 compared to its smaller cousins. The QX80 achieves 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg at highway speeds.
Passenger and Cargo Capacity
The standard passenger capacity in the QX80 is seven, but you can increase this to eight if you swap out the second-row captain’s chairs for a bench seat. With all three rows in use, you’ll have around 16 cubic feet of cargo space at the rear, which is about enough for a large load of groceries. The cargo area increases to 49 cubic feet with the rear row folded flat and 95.1 cubic feet with both back rows down.
The QX70 is a two-row SUV with seating for up to five people. There’s enough room for adult passengers to travel in both rows, which feature leather upholstery in the base trim and optional quilted leather. Behind the second row, you’ll have about 24 cubic feet of storage, increasing to 62 cubic feet if you can afford to fold down the second row.
The QX60 slots between the QX80 and QX70 in terms of its passenger and cargo capacity. Like the QX80, the QX60 has three rows of seating. Its maximum capacity is seven people, which drops to six if you choose second-row captain’s chairs. The first two rows of seating are well-equipped for adult passengers, while the third row is perfect for kids. The QX60 has 14 cubic feet of storage space at the rear, which increases to over 75 cubic feet with both rear rows folded flat.
Infotainment Features
The QX70 was last released in 2017, so its infotainment system lacks some of the more modern features available in the QX60 and QX80. Nonetheless, its base setup has a 7-inch display and 11-speaker premium stereo. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and automatic climate control. You can also upgrade to a larger 8-inch infotainment screen and a navigation system.
The QX60’s infotainment system includes a 12.3-inch screen, a nine-speaker stereo, and smartphone compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include several USB ports, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and satellite radio. You can opt to upgrade to a 17-speaker stereo, a navigation system, and wireless device charging.
The QX80 has a similar setup led by a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. It has a 13-speaker stereo, four USB ports, smartphone compatibility, and wireless device charging. A navigation system and a Wi-Fi hotspot also come standard. However, you can upgrade to a 17-speaker audio system and a rear-seat infotainment system, which gives second-row passengers two 8-inch displays of their own.
Which One to Buy?
Choosing between these three SUVs depends on prioritizing what you want most from your vehicle. If you require as much space in the cabin as possible, whether that’s to transport passengers or haul cargo, you won’t do better than the QX80. In addition to offering three rows of seats, the QX80 has an incredible towing capacity, which means you can tow a large camper or trailer for a trip out of town.
If you only require two rows of seating and enjoy a powerful engine under the hood, the QX70 is a good choice. Another attractive feature of the QX70 is that you’ll probably pay a lower purchase price for this crossover since the last new model came out for the 2017 model year. So, if you’re shopping on a modest budget, keep a pre-owned QX70 in mind as a possible option. Remember that any vehicle over five years old should be carefully inspected by an INFINITI dealership before purchasing it to ensure everything is in good working order.
Those searching for a decent amount of passenger and cargo capacity in a more maneuverable vehicle than the QX80 should consider the QX60. The only thing to remember about the QX60 is that its engine offers considerably less power than the QX80’s. Even so, the V-6 under the QX60’s hood is more than up to the task of day-to-day driving in the city or on the highway.
We hope our three-way comparison has helped you decide which INFINITI crossover is right for you.
