Two great crossovers worth considering in INFINITI’s luxury SUV lineup are the QX50 and QX60. While the QX60 offers the added convenience of a third row of seats, the QX50’s more compact dimensions are ideal for city driving. QX50 vs. QX60: Engine and Performance

The mid-sized QX60 has a V-6 engine under the hood that puts out 295 horsepower. In the QX60’s standard setup, this engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. You can upgrade to all-wheel drive to gain better control on slippery surfaces.

The smaller INFINITI QX50 is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churns out 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, which helps the compact crossover accelerate swiftly. A continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive also come standard, but you can upgrade to all-wheel drive.

The turbocharged four-cylinder engine, combined with the QX50’s smaller size, makes the QX50 a more fuel-efficient car than the QX60. The QX50 achieves 23 mpg on city roads and 29 mpg on the highway in front-wheel drive. The QX60’s figures of 21 mpg and 26 mpg, respectively, are still good for a mid-sized luxury SUV.

The QX60 has a big advantage when it comes to towing. This mid-sized utility vehicle can pull up to 6,000 pounds, which is more than enough for a mid-sized camper, boat, or trailer. By contrast, the QX50 doesn’t have a tow rating.

QX50 vs. QX60: Passenger and Cargo Capacity

Stepping inside the cabin, the QX50 and QX60 both feature upscale materials to create a relaxing ambiance. The QX50 offers seating for up to five passengers across two rows, with plenty of legroom and headroom for adults to sit up front or in the second row. The 38.7 inches of legroom in the second row are among the best in the luxury compact SUV class. Two sets of LATCH connectors for installing child seating are also provided.

The QX60 can seat seven people across its three rows in its standard configuration. However, if you add a touch more comfort by including the optional captain’s chairs in the second row, passenger capacity drops to six. The first two rows are great for adult passengers, while the third row is designed mainly for kids. Four sets of LATCH connectors for child seating are available, including three in the second row and one on the driver’s side of the third row.

The QX50 boasts 31 cubic feet of storage behind its second row, which can be increased to 65 cubic feet with the rear row folded flat. This compares to 14.5 cubic feet behind the third row of the QX60. With the third row folded down, you’ll have 41 cubic feet of cargo capacity and over 75 cubic feet with both rear rows folded flat.

QX50 vs. QX60: Infotainment and Safety Features

Both of these crossovers have many of the same entertainment features, but their infotainment systems have a slightly different appearance. The QX60 goes with one large infotainment screen measuring 12.3 inches and a nine-speaker stereo. In contrast, the QX50 has a dual-screen infotainment system consisting of one screen measuring 8 inches and another located directly underneath measuring 7 inches. The standard sound system in the QX50 is a six-speaker stereo.

Both vehicles feature smartphone compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and USB ports. They also boast Wi-Fi hotspots so that you can stay connected wherever you go. The QX50 has standard voice recognition technology, which allows you to perform basic adjustments to the infotainment system while you’re driving.

Optional upgrades are also similar, with the QX60 offering a 17-speaker stereo, a navigation system, and wireless device charging. The QX50 offers a 16-speaker stereo and a navigation system.

INFINITI equips both of these vehicles with a long list of safety features. This includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and parking sensors, to give only a few examples. The QX50 features a ProPILOT Assist system that can keep your crossover centered in the lane and adjust your speed on the highway, so you maintain a safe distance from vehicles up ahead.

When it comes to upgrades, both vehicles offer the choice of a surround-view parking camera and traffic sign recognition. You can get rain-sensing windshield wipers in the QX50, while the QX60 offers a driver drowsiness monitor to warn you when it’s time to take a break.

QX50 vs. QX60: Trims and Pricing

The QX60 is offered in four trims, while the QX50 has five. The QX60’s trims are Pure, Luxe, Sensory, and Autograph. The QX50’s trims are Pure, Luxe, Essential, Sensory, and Autograph. There’s quite a big price gap between these two vehicles’ base trims, with the QX60 starting at $46,850 and the QX50 having an MSRP of $39,000. If you don’t need the additional space and capability the QX60 offers, you may prefer the QX50 due to its more affordable price.

In its base setup, the QX50 has synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The QX60 has genuine leather seats, heated and power-adjustable front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The Luxe trim gets you genuine leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a moonroof in the QX50. The QX60 Luxe adds ventilated front seats, larger wheels, and adaptive cruise control.

The QX60 Sensory is the trim to go for if you’d like the driver drowsiness monitor and the 17-speaker stereo. The range-topping Autograph includes massaging front seats, heated second-row seats, and a hands-free liftgate. The QX50 is also available with ventilated front seats if you opt for the Essential trim. The Sensory trim gets you heated rear seats, while the top Autograph trim includes ambient interior lighting and rear-row sunshades.
