The Best Dog Parks In Jackson, MS

There’s nothing more enjoyable than taking your dog to the dog park and watching them enjoy the opportunity to run and play. Jackson, Mississippi, has plenty of dog parks to choose from, so when you’re looking for a change of pace, you’ll have no problem finding a new one that you and your dog can check out for a bit of fun.

Clinton Bark Park

The City of Clinton has the first dog park located between the Ross Barnett Reservoir and Vicksburg, providing an excellent place for you to let your dogs run off-leash. The 2-acre Clinton Bark Park is a literal dog playground, with play structures and water fountains for dogs to enjoy and run off their energy. There are also benches for you to sit and relax while your dog plays. It’s also located right next to Kid’s Towne Park, so you can bring the kids and pets for a day out at the park while staying in eyeshot.

The hours for the park are dawn until dusk, and it’s located at 913 Old Vicksburg Road.

Dog Park at the REZ/Pelahatchie Shore Park/Lakeshore Park

The Dog Park at the REZ, Lakeshore Park, and Pelahatchie Shore Park are all found on the Ross Barnett Reservoir. The Dog Park at the REZ is in the Old Trace Park in Ridgeland, Mississippi, and features fenced-in areas for dogs of small, medium, and large sizes. There are plenty of places to sit in the shade while your dogs run and play off-leash. Water stations and bowls are readily available, as are toys and waste bags.

Pelahatchie Shore Park

Pelahatchie Shore Park, also located on the Ross Barnett Reservoir in Brandon, Mississippi, doesn’t have a designated area for a dog park, but it does allow dogs to visit if their owners keep them leashed. You and your dogs can walk on the beaches, and you can let them out into the water.

Both parks  open at sunrise and close at sunset. A $5 parking fee is sometimes in effect, and you can call in advance to find out if you’ll need to pay.

Lakeshore Park

You can find Lakeshore Park which also has a dog park,  just south of the Dog Park at the REZ. The setup at the Lakeshore dog park is similar to that of the Dog Park at the REZ and has a large, fenced area for dogs to run and play.

The Pavilion

The Pavilion dog park is in the City of Brandon at Boyce Thompson Drive. The township operates this no-frills dog park that offers lots of room for dogs to run around and stretch their legs. The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department enforces the park’s rules, so you’ll want to abide by them while your dog is in the park. Some of the rules include the following:

• You must clean up after your dog.
• A rabies license and shots are required.
• You must remove aggressive dogs immediately.
• No dogs under the age of 4 months are allowed.
• A leash is required to enter the dog park.
• There’s a limit of three dogs per adult.

Bree’s Bark Park

Bree’s Bark Park is part of the Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) no-kill animal shelter in Jackson and opens for use by dog owners from noon to dusk on weekends and 3:30 p.m. during the weekdays. There’s a pool for dogs to splash in, plenty of space to run, and areas for you to relax while keeping an eye on your dogs.

The CARA shelter uses the dog park for exercising and training shelter dogs and welcomes volunteers to help with those activities. It’s a good idea to be aware of your dog at the park when the shelter dogs are using it, as they have varying levels of socialization.

Fields of Barktopia

You’ll have to hop into your INFINITI with your dog and head to Hattiesburg for the Fields of Barktopia, but what better excuse could you have for a road trip? The dog park is part of Hub City Humane Society, and it’s designed to give dogs of all sizes a place to run around and play safely. There’s a dedicated space for both small and large dogs to separate them and prevent fights from breaking out.

The park has rules and regulations for its use. Owners must be responsible for their dogs at all times, and there’s a maximum of two dogs per adult. Dogs must have had a rabies vaccine and wear their tags, along with all other required licenses. The dog park prohibits dogs in heat and those under the age of 4 months. You can use training treats, but you must not bring any other food or drinks into the park. Last but not least, dogs must be on a leash prior to entering the park.
