Nissan Maxima Vs. INFINITI Q50

November 17th, 2022 by

If you’re looking for a new sedan to spice up your daily commute, we don’t blame you. In this competitive market, it might help to view a comparison of the Nissan Maxima versus the INFINITI Q50. Both cars have strong engines, good safety features, impressive zero-to-60 times, and roomy seating for five passengers, among other benefits. Here’s a closer look at the differences between the latest Maxima versus the INFINITI Q50.

Nissan Maxima vs. INFINITI Q50: Exterior Features

Standard features on the basic Maxima include heated side mirrors, automatic headlights with high beams, LED taillights, and daytime running lights. You’ll find many of the same features on the new INFINITI Q50. The Maxima gives you the option of the following seven colors: Brilliant Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Pearl, Gun Metallic, Pearl White Tricoat, Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, Sunset Drift Chromaflair, and Super Black. Meanwhile, the 2022 INFINITI Q50 offers you the following eight colors: Slate Gray, Grand Blue, Dynamic Sunstone Red, Majestic White, Graphite Shadow, Midnight Black, Pure White, and Black Obsidian.

A vehicle’s exterior design can affect the interior passenger volume and cargo capacity, among other things. The 2022 INFINITI Q50 and the Nissan Maxima have roughly the same width, but the Maxima has about 3 inches more exterior length. Put simply, the Maxima is a bit roomier, but the INFINITI is slightly more agile in tight spaces.

Nissan Maxima vs. INFINITI Q50: Interior Features

The INFINITI Q50 surrounds five premium seats with luxurious accents and surfaces covered in quilted leather and open-pore wood. The electric moonroof gives you the impression of having more interior space, adding brightness during the day or giving you access to the open air on a warm night. Additional knee padding around the center console increases comfort and blends perfectly with the performance-designed driver’s seat. Automatic climate control is standard, and cabin material colors vary, from Graphite and Stone to Saddle Brown and even semi-aniline leather in Gallery White or Graphite.

The 2022 Nissan Maxima’s interior aims to evoke the sensation of driving a sports car, with seats in some trims featuring diamond-quilted inserts crafted from high-end Italian Alcantara. It comes with leather seat upholstery, a heated eight-way power driver’s seat, a four-way power passenger’s seat is standard, and a D-shape leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted paddle shifters. Part of Maxima’s sporty feel comes from the zero-gravity seats with 3D bolsters.

Nissan Maxima vs. INFINITI Q50: Cargo Space

Although similar in size and shape, the Nissan provides more trunk space, while the INFINITI provides more passenger room. The latest INFINITI Q50 models have a trunk that fits 13.5 cu ft of groceries, sports gear, or anything you like, while the Maxima offers a total of 14.3 cu ft. However, the INFINITI Q50 has 100 cu ft of total interior volume if you fold the seats down, compared with 98 cu ft in the Maxima. Don’t forget the spacious cargo area of the new all-wheel-drive INFINITI Q50 Sensory or other new INFINITI cars at our dealership.

Nissan Maxima vs. INFINITI Q50: Technology

The starting INFINITI Q50 Luxe includes 16 Bose Performance Series speakers that can adjust the volume to stay audible while the engine roars into action. One nice addition for 2022 is wireless Apple CarPlay, although wired Android Auto remains standard. Two front-row USB ports also come standard, while second-row ports are available.

The Maxima SV trim level includes keyless entry, push-button start, and a 7.0-inch instrument cluster display. The INFINITI Q50’s dynamic Bose Performance Series Audio 16-speaker stereo is one feature that the Nissan Maxima lacks, but both vehicles offer Wi-Fi hotspot functionality and built-in navigation on higher-end trims.

Nissan Maxima vs. INFINITI Q50: Safety Features

Both the Nissan Maxima and the INFINITI Q50 come standard with tire pressure monitoring systems, a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, automatic emergency braking, including rear braking, and blind-spot monitoring. Automatic emergency braking will engage the brakes to stop your car before a potential collision happens, both while driving normally and when backing up. The blind-spot monitor can help you stay aware of your surroundings.

Many of the most impressive safety features in cars today use sophisticated sensors to monitor the exterior, particularly in areas where you have trouble seeing. The INFINITI Q50’s intelligent Around View Monitor, found on all trim levels, has an equivalent on the Maxima, but you’ll have to upgrade to the highest trim level. These systems use sonar and cameras capable of detecting moving objects, which is a great tool when navigating a tight parking lot.

Nissan Maxima vs. INFINITI Q50: Engine and Performance

The 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine in the INFINITI produces up to 400 hp, whereas the 3.5-liter engine in the Maxima is bigger and has a larger displacement. This engine’s torque ranges from 295 lb-ft to 350 lb-ft. Compare this to Maxima’s 300 hp and 261 lb-ft, and it’s clear that the INFINITI has an advantage. While the Maxima has a solid zero-to-60-mph time of 6.0 seconds, the new INFINITI Q50 accelerates from zero to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. The INFINITI Q50 also offers both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive models, whereas the Maxima is rear-wheel drive only.

Owners of the new INFINITI Q50 LUXE can anticipate an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which adds up to 23 mpg combined. When driving on the highway, the Maxima achieves an EPA-estimated 30 mpg and 20 mpg in the city, so it has a slight edge over the Maxima when driving on the highway. All in all, if performance is a deciding factor, the INFINITI Q50 may be a better fit.

Nissan Maxima vs. INFINITI Q50: Winner

Overall, the latest Nissan Maxima and INFINITI offer many similar benefits. However, the INFINITI Q50 stands out for its more driver-focused cockpit. It’s also slightly more conveniently shaped for tight parking lots and city driving due to Maxima’s longer body and has a more impressive powertrain.
