The City of Soul has some great coffee shops, in addition to its culture of wonderful music, art, and Southern food. Here’s a list of the best coffee places near Jackson, Mississippi, where you can find your next cup of fresh coffee and deepen your connection with the local community.

Cups Espresso Cafe has been serving Mississippi since 1993. This husband-and-wife team wanted to open a coffee shop that also highlighted art and music, and today Cups is an artistic community hub. Cups started roasting their own coffee beans shortly after opening, and today the cafe only serves beans roasted in-house. The best news is, if you enjoy their coffee, you can buy the fresh beans and take them home with you for Cups’ coffee at home.

The coffee flavors change daily and include custom specialties like the chocolaty Captain Gabriel or the Capitol St. Latte infused with caramel. But Cups Espresso Cafe serves more than just coffee. There are also a variety of teas, lattes, and espresso concoctions, as well as delicious fruit and yogurt smoothies.

Many of Cups’ baristas are also artists in music, media, or visual arts. To further support local artists and deepen the community bond, the cafe displays the work of local artists. Cups now has 11 stores in Mississippi, including the Jackson store at 1350 E. Woodrow Wilson Drive.

Urban Foxes

If you love a tasty dessert with your coffee or latte, Urban Foxes is the place to go. Urban Foxes is a pie shop that specializes in small-batch baked goods, but they also serve a variety of beverages, including coffee, beer, and teas. For their coffee selections, the shop features a drip brew and an Americano coffee, which is an espresso and hot water drink. They also have espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, cortado, latte, mocha, and hot tea. Additionally, Urban Foxes serves chai latte, which is actually a frothy chai tea and milk combination, not coffee.

You’ll be able to enjoy your coffee with a slice of fresh pie, a scone, cake, or a muffin. Their fresh-baked pie menu changes daily, but some of the most delectable choices include apple custard, key lime, and peanut butter. If you can’t decide on one pie, try the pie flight, which is your choice of three of the day’s delicious pie choices for $12.

Urban Foxes has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere and features artwork from a local artist on the walls. There is a back courtyard with picnic benches and old-fashioned front porch seating available. You’ll find Urban Foxes at 826 North St. in Jackson.

Coffee Prose

For the coffee drinkers who are also book lovers, Coffee Prose is a coffee shop, bistro, and used bookstore. The coffee selection features a medium and dark roast drip option along with cold brew espresso. The shop has a large selection of specialty lattes you can order hot, iced, frozen, or without espresso. The drinks’ names are intriguing and remind you that you’re also in a bookstore with names like Cream & Punishment, The Gatsby, and Mad Hatter.

Coffee Prose has a front patio to relax on while you sip your java, or a drive-through to get coffee or bakery items to go. You’ll find Coffee Prose in their midtown location at 1619 N. West St. or in the Highland Village Shopping Center at 4500 Interstate 55 N. Frontage Road.

Native Coffee

Native Coffee is a newcomer to the Jackson area and the coffee shop already has a familiar, neighborly feel. You can order batch brew coffee or try some of their specialties, like a latte, cappuccino, espresso, or cortado. There’s also a selection of non-coffee beverages, including hot chocolate, loose leaf tea, chai tea latte, and sparkling water.

If you’d like a little snack with your coffee, you can try a lemon poppy seed scone or a cherry almond muffin. For a meal option, Native Coffee serves fresh, homemade biscuits that you can order plain, with gravy, or as a sandwich with sausage, bacon, eggs, or cheese. You can visit Native Coffee at 1800 N. State St.
